World on a Wire (1973) Rainer Werner Fassbinder
That mirror budget must have been insane!
Perhaps it was my mood, or perhaps it was because we watched it all in one go, but yea, in 4 hours I got a bit bored. I’m gonna be one of those philistines and say I wish it had been cut down.
The ideas contained in the film were really interesting; The Matrix, of course, excised a lot, but World on a Wire went deeper and darker than that. I was particularly interested in the exploration of the purpose of science and its logical extreme. And with those ideas went some really excellent and unsettling imagery, without a need to rely on special effects.
But by the second disc, I was really bored and couldn’t care less about the main character, and I couldn’t really get past all the women who looked like living, breathing, Real Dolls.
