FantasticHere’s a nice essay by Joe Posnanski on what it’s been like to cover the Olympics. I’ve been on the look out for essays like these. I’m sure most Olympic venues have the potential for interesting stories and anecdotes, but as an expatriate of near-London, and as someone that knows all too well how giddy Americans get in the face of a British accent, charming stories like this were, I assumed, a near inevitability. The thought of being anywhere near London during the Olympics makes me want to die, but I can’t say the last few paragraphs didn’t make me a little homesick.

Vault - Team Final - 2012 London Olympics - McKayla Maroney
This was my favorite moment last night. Y’all need to remember this because it is just PERFECT.
The thing about McKayla is this vault is SO FUCKING difficult and she makes it look EASY.
Y’all do not understand. There are men who cannot get this kind of height and execute this type of vault. No other female, IN THE WORLD, can do this. This is not hyperbole.
People have talked shit about her being on the team and only being in one event for these Olympics games, as though her ability to do this vault is just some easy task and she should ALSO be in the other events.
FUCK YOU.
You get out there and do this vault, this perfectly, and come talk to me after.
