Paperman - Full Animated Short Film (by disneyanimation)
One of my favorite films of 2012. So happy to see Walt Disney Animation Studios put this out there on YouTube for everyone to see.
How nice! I really loved this.

One of my favorite Pixar stories, and an excellent example of what Pixar does best - simple, yet powerful ideas that connect to all of us. These are stories made for families - stories that appeal to the children, stories that transform the adults into children. They speak to the fears, hopes, and senses of humor of both children and adults. While there are nods to only the adults (e.g., The Shining reference), they never stoop to the level of rudeness and lewdness to throw a bone to the adults who have to watch. Maybe that’s the difference. Adults want to watch Pixar movies. They have to watch that fourth Shrek movie.
It looks absolutely stunning on Blu-ray (and honestly the 3-D isn’t bad too), a reminder to myself that I really need to pick up Planet Earth/ the Blue Planet.

I want to hug ō totoro
The perfect mix of childlike purity, complex emotion, and total cuteness without being too fucking whimsical.
Despicable Me (2010) Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud
The Perfect Recipe:
One (1) shitty day + One (1) viewing of Despicable Me = A million billion times (~100000000000000000000x) increase in happiness

Despicable Me (2010) Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud
The perfect movie to add to a 4-day sick day movie marathon (13 total - I had forgotten about The Robber in a previous count).
Guess what? Still laughed like a very ridiculous small child.

I love this movie, I love it so much. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of movie stars doing animated movies instead of voice actors - take a listen to Rob Paulsen’s Talkin Toons podcast to check out some amazing voice actors talking about the business - but I LOVED Steve Carell as Gru.
Also, I am a 12 year old boy who laughed for five solid minutes over fart gun.

2012 Oscar Nominated Shorts: Animated
The trailer for my favorite, A Morning Stroll. Excellent animation, humorous, yet still with something to say. Dimanche was a close second for me. Also a strong showing from Pixar, as always. Wild Life was beautiful, but I felt like there was something to get that I missed. However, in a year where Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, War Horse, and The Help are nominated for Best Picture, I have a feeling that The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, a somewhat charming, yet overly sentimental fantasy about the importance of books and stories in the aftermath of natural disaster (from Louisiana of course, with some Wizard of Oz and Buster Keaton thrown in for good measure), will win. Also shown were the commended films, including Skylight, a hilarious mockumentary about the holes in the ozone.
